The Xbox One is Microsoft’s home video game console and is the third console in the Xbox series, following 2001s Xbox and 2005s Xbox 360. Sold worldwide and universally acclaimed, it’s hailed as one of the world’s top consoles, alongside the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The Xbox One is named so as it also functions as an all-in-one entertainment system, which you can use to stream catch-up services and entertainment apps in 4K Ultra HD, watch Blu-ray, play music, browse the internet and more.

In 2016, Microsoft released the Xbox One S, in a smaller case but available as a 2 TB model. It also offers higher resolutions, supporting 4K video and HDR, and the ability to connect to wireless controllers through Bluetooth. 2017 saw the release of the high-end Xbox One X. It is specialised for 4K resolution, has 12GB of RAM and operates at a mammoth 6 teraflops. As well as being fully compatible with preceding software and accessories, it includes performance improvements for existing games. Some games are classed as Xbox One X Enhanced games and are optimised specifically for the console’s hardware, giving the best graphical experience available on the market.

If you’re looking to upgrade or see what it’s all about, check out our brilliant value Xbox One bundles and Xbox One X bundles. On to the fun stuff. The Xbox One is famed for its huge variety of games and franchises, which can all be stored on a digital library. Fans of shooters can’t go wrong with Call of Duty, Battlefield, Borderlands and Tom Clancy. Battle royale options include Call of Duty Black Ops 4, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite. For roleplaying and adventure, Sea of Thieves, Fallout, Dark Souls, Elder Scrolls, The Witcher, Final Fantasy and Sekiro are bound to hit the spot. And how can you leave out sporting greats like FIFA, F1, UFC and PES? With such an arsenal, there’s no chance of running out of new games to try.

Once you’ve got the basics sorted, there are many more ways to increase you experience and comfort. Gaming chairs have taken the world by storm and, in addition to improving posture, are designed to make your gaming experience even more immersive, some featuring built-in speakers and vibration systems. Many games require cooperation with team mates, in which case gaming headsets become essential for your performance. Not only do they let you clearly communicate, their sound quality and active noise cancelling can help you win games, for example by letting you clearly hear and pinpoint your opponent’s footsteps. And make sure you have a TV that gives credit to the effort Microsoft have put in to make the Xbox One a graphical powerhouse.
